Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio is committed to improving the health of our community by fostering and funding clinical, educational, spiritual and scientific initiatives while honoring God and our Baptist heritage.
Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio is one of the Lord’s conduits to provide spiritual and healthcare services to His people and be a reflection of His presence in the community.
More than 100 years ago, a group of San Antonio physicians planted the seeds that grew to become Baptist Health System (BHS). As a nonprofit, faith-based system, BHS successfully ministered to both the physical and spiritual health of its patients.
When the BHS Board of Trustees recognized that economic hardships threatened to compromise the system’s ability to provide exceptional care, the system was sold in 2003 to Vanguard Health Systems of Nashville, TN. In 2013, Vanguard Health Systems was sold to Tenet Healthcare Corporation of Dallas, TX.
Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio (BHFSA) was formed in 2004, following the sale of the Baptist Health System. BHFSA was created to fund not-for-profit healthcare services and education throughout Bexar County and seven surrounding counties.
BHFSA is committed to being the hands and feet of God as it serves the community. Grants are given on a yearly basis to organizations across the healthcare spectrum, ranging from medical clinics to churches to afterschool programs.
Since inception, BHFSA has awarded almost $100 million in grants to further BHFSA’s mission of honoring God by improving the health of our community.
- BHFSA makes grants to roughly 100 nonprofits every year.
- Grants are given through an application process.
- Grants decisions are made by a diverse group of trustees from a broad spectrum of professional backgrounds.
- Every grant recipient is given not only financial support, but also faith-based encouragement and prayer.
In addition to grants, BHFSA gives gifts and sponsorships to a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout the year to support local events that further our health goals.
