Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio presents Spirit of Health Award to Redeemer’s Praise Church
Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio is proud to announce Redeemer’s Praise Church as the 2025 recipient of the Spirit of Health Award, in recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by both the congregation and their beloved pastor, Shetigho Nakpodia.
Redeemer’s Praise Church is located, as they say, “distinctly” east of downtown. The historic building was purchased and renovated 15 years ago by a pastor from Nigeria, Shetigho Nakpodia. Since then, the doors have been open 24/7, even during the COVID pandemic, to the neighboring community and the many unhoused folks that attend the church. Their website lists times for services—Sunday sermons come with breakfast and lunch, Wednesday night Bible study doubles as a grocery giveaway, and Saturdays are spent either being fed and ministered to or feeding and ministering to others, depending on where you are on your journey.
The congregation is currently in the midst of building a help center next to the church.
The Spirit of Health Award is given annually to organizations and individuals who have a remarkable impact on health within BHFSA’s eight-county service area. The award recognizes organizations or individuals for their community leadership, compassion and dedication. Redeemer’s Praise Church is the first church congregation to receive this honor.
BHFSA also announced over nine million dollars in grants this year awarded to more than 100 area non-profits for health-related causes. BHFSA’s goal is to improve health in Bexar County and seven contiguous counties. This has been accomplished through the giving of over $120 million in grants to area nonprofit organizations since 2004.
