The purpose of making disaster relief grants is to make funding available to help in the recovery of a disaster and relieve suffering resulting from a disaster.
Upon declaration of a disaster, the Disaster Relief Committee and staff will assess the need and make a funding recommendation to the full Board.
- Respond to human needs requiring immediate attention.
- Minimize the emergence of disease or other disaster-related complications.
- Reduce the further displacement of people by assisting with shelter and food security.
- Assist in the stabilization of life after a disaster has occurred.
- Funding in the BHFSA service area can be made available after the occurrence of a disaster.
- Funding beyond the BHFSA service area can be made available after the official declaration of a disaster.
- Organizations must have at least one full year of operating history as a 501(c)(3) to be eligible for funding.
- Only one grant per organization per incidence will be considered. Under these extraordinary circumstances, having another open grant will not exclude an organization from being considered for a Disaster Relief grant.
- Funding will be made by invitation of the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio.
- Funding should support efforts that will benefit a large segment of the population and not limited to specific individuals.
- The Foundation prefers to make funding available to locally and regionally based organizations, organizations with a strong volunteer presence, and faith-based organizations (although secular organizations may also be eligible for funding), regardless of size.
- The Foundation will provide funding to support activities that provide direct assistance, support services (such as case management and counseling), assist with immediate and extended needs, and that assist with the coordination of relief resources (such as volunteer coordination and managing donated items).
The following will be required of organizations funded to provide disaster relief:
- Complete description of assistance to be rendered.
- Charitable organization’s objective criteria for disbursing assistance.
- Names of key individuals within the organization to include: Executive Director, Board Chair, and the name of the primary contact person.
- Anticipated timeline of activities.
The following is required after funding has been received:
- Purpose for which the aid was given.
- How recipients were selected.
- For assistance in the form of cash or cash equivalence: name, address, and amount distributed to each recipient.
- Any relationship between a recipient, staff person, and officers.
- Summary report 30 days following the distribution of funds and subsequent 30 day intervals until the final report is submitted.
- Final report of services rendered.
- Final report of expenditures, including all sources of revenue and expenses related to the assistance provided. The Foundation will reserve the right to request a refund of any left over balance following a reasonable amount of time after the occurrence of a disaster.
